San Francisco Jaw Harp Choir

Structured like a community chorus, all are welcome to join, regardless of prior jaw harp playing experience. We’ll teach you how to play! Don’t own a jaw harp? No worries. We have inexpensive mouth harps available for purchase and an instrument library from which , you can borrow with a small deposit. Our goal is to develop a body of work that we can record and perform at regional venues and jaw harp festivals near and afar.

The Jaw Harp Choir will be led by award-winning multi-instrumentalist, composer, conductor, and music educator, Mark Growden. Mark has been playing jaw harp since the mid-seventies and recently authored the book Melodia - 11 Compositions for The Melodic Jaw Harp. Mark has extensive experience as a music director and music educator.

La Sicilia Incontra il Mondo al Marranzano World Fest (MWF)

(ENGLISH BELOW*) Dalla prima edizione del 2005, il MWF si è rapidamente affermato come punto di riferimento e momento di incontro per tutto l’ambiente variegato che unisce la ricerca etnomusicologica con la pratica musicale e con la divulgazione e la salvaguardia del patrimonio musicale di tradizione orale.

Nato con l’obbiettivo di (ri)scoprire e valorizzare le tradizioni musicali siciliane attraverso un fertile confronto con le tradizioni culturali di tutto il Mondo, il MWF è ormai un contesto unico dove si incontrano passato e futuro, ricerca scientifica e pratica artistica, tradizione e contemporaneità, la cultura locale e il villaggio globale, lo studio rigoroso e il puro divertimento, all’insegna dei valori di incontro, scambio e condivisione tra persone, generazioni, lingue e culture diverse.

L’Ottava edizione prevede nel 2017 un approfondimento sulle forme e i repertori, le tecniche esecutive, gli stili e le specificità del canto popolare in Sicilia, sia esso a voce sola o polivocale, nei contesti devozionali e in quelli profani, anche attraverso il confronto con repertori di canto corale e tradizionale di altre regioni d’Italia e del Mondo

Oltre ai concerti con prestigiosi ospiti locali, nazionali e internazionali, il programma prevede un ricco calendario di conferenze, presentazioni e laboratori pratici per conoscere da vicino e sperimentare in prima persona le danze, i canti e le musiche popolari dalla Sicilia alla Campania, dalla Russia all’Africa, passando anche per Ungheria, Francia, Svizzera e Stati Uniti.

Sicily Meets the World at the Marranzano World Fest (MWF)

Un workshop di DOROMBO per imparare a suonare uno dei più antichi strumenti popolari partendo dalle basi della produzione del suono, fino ad alcune tecniche dinamiche più avanzate, includendo ritmi e melodie tradizionali ungheresi della cultura Moldvan Chango.  
ADATTO a principianti tanto quanto per suonatori più esperti.

Venite a provare in prima persona il potere aggregativo delle tradizionali danze in cerchio della cultura Csángó dalla Transilvania! 
I membri del gruppo Zoord wi insegneranno tutti i passi e suoneranno dal vivo per accompagnare i danzatori. Tutte le danze sono molto semplici, divertenti ed energetiche. Il laboratorio è adatto anche a chi non ha alcuna esperienza nella danza o senso del ritmo.
L’etnia Csángó [pronunciato "chaan-go”] è formata da una comunità di lingua ungherese che in tempi remoti si è spostata dalla Transilvania (nell’attuale Romania) scavalcando i monti Carpazi per stabilirsi nell’attuale Moldavia. Questa comunità è rimasta dunque relativamente isolata dal resto della popolazione ungherese, ed ha così preservato caratteri molto arcaici nella lingua così come nella musica e nelle danze.

Il Docente: Aron Szilagyi, figlio del celebre inventore e costruttore Zoltan Szilagyi, ha iniziato a suonare all’età di tre anni ed ha potuto imparare dai più importanti virtuosi contemporanei, giungendo alla creazione di uno stile ed una tecnica esecutiva assolutamente unici. Il suo approccio combina le tecniche tradizionali con la sperimentazione che giunge al confine con l’elettronica. Le sue esibizioni dinamiche sono sempre di sicuro impatto sul pubblico che alterna stati di contemplazione meravigliata alla danza scatenata. Ha tenuto corsi e laboratori a Tokio, New York, Delhi, Londra, Parigi, Varsavia, Berlino, Dakar, e in molti altri luoghi, ed ha insegnato fino ad oggi ad almeno 6000 studenti in giro per il mondo.

Come and try firsthand the aggregate power of the traditional dances in the circle of Csángó culture from Transylvania!
The members of the Zoord group will teach all the steps and play live to accompany the dancers. All dances are very simple, fun and energetic. The lab is also suitable for those who have no experience in dance or sense of rhythm.
The Csángó ethnic group is formed by a Hungarian-speaking community that has moved away from Transylvania (now Romania) to overtaking the Carpathian mountains to settle in present-day Moldavia. Therefore relatively isolated from the rest of the Hungarian population, and thus preserved very archaic characters in the language as well as in music and dances.

Teacher: Aron Szilagyi, son of the famous inventor and builder Zoltan Szilagyi, started playing at the age of three and was able to learn from the most important virtuoso contemporary, reaching the creation of an absolutely unique style and technique. Во время мастер-класса Эркин Алексеев покажет как играть на хомусе в нескольких древних якутских стилях. Самый яркий из них, конечно, шаманский.
Когда-то давно шаманы, призывая своих духов-помощников, кричали их голосами.
Сейчас якутские артисты взяли на вооружение этот приём и широко используют его в своих выступлениях.
Наверняка вам приходилось слышать как хомусист во время игры , вдруг начинает кричать множеством голосов природы.

Николай Соболев, Наталья Дучева и Ольга Прасс поделятся уникальными авторскими техниками игры на варгане, накопленными за годы практики.

После мастер-класса состоится концерт. На котором будут звучать не только Хомусы и Варганы. А ещё и Бубны, Cosmicbow и Горловое пение.

Из тишины, едва слышно, в воздухе возникает первая нота. Она подобна первой капле долгожданного дождя… Падая на сухую землю капля за каплей, словно ноту за нотой дождь тихо нашёптывает небесную песню. И вот уже всё вокруг начинает кружиться и плясать в огненных отблесках молний, подхватываемых неистовым музыкальным вихрем. Ты отрываешься от земли и паришь словно птица по небу, лишь только тонкая нить звука удерживает и направляет тебя в твоём звуковом путешествии.
