New Karinding – from West Java to California!

a little photo shoot with some of my instruments today – especially to acknowledge the addition of my new bamboo instruments from Billal Al Shabill (received yesterday)–  karindingclamping,* and toleat (flute) from West Java to California! – pictured here with my hurdygurdy (made in England) and my khomus, custom made for me by Николай Бурцев of Yakutsk in Siberia. The batik in the lower half of the above photo was also in my package from West Java. – thank you Billal!

* celempung is the large bamboo at the bottom of the above photo - a percussion instrument. see the #KhomusWeekly youtube playlist "other" for video samples.

Harm Linsen Beautiful! Are they also educated in the background and meanings of the instrument itself?
UnlikeReply120 hrs
Karinding Sadulur yes, they are educated to play a Karinding. But not only that. In our curriculum (Karinding Sadulur) for all those who learn together educated in order to better understand the philosophical meaning of Karinding tu contained himself. And to learn to be more loving and growing self-awareness that this is included inheritance of culture and artistic tradition shingga can be motivated to continue to preserve it.

update on my medical situation

  • a quick update on my medical situation: i met with my surgeon last week, and he wants to try a course of epidural injections for my neck rather that perform surgery at this point. hopefully this will help to relieve the muscle spasms in my neck and shoulders which have literally pulled my shoulder out of place. i have been having some serious difficulty with my right arm, and have not been able or had the energy to spend nearly as much online as i used to
